Department of Health Science Moving to the College of Life Sciencesneiger

August 5, 2009

Dear Students and Other Friends of the Department,

As many of you may have heard last month, the university announced that the College of Health and Human Performance would be disbanded and that its three remaining departments would be moved to other colleges on campus. I received word earlier this week that pending Board of Trustee approval, the Department of Health Science will join the College of Life Sciences effective fall semester 2009. The Department of Exercise Sciences will also join this college. Existing departments in the College of Life Sciences include: Biology; Microbiology & Molecular Biology; Nutrition, Dietetics & Food Science; Physiology & Developmental Biology; and Plant and Wildlife Sciences.

I want to assure you that even though we are moving to a new college, the Department of Health Science will remain the same including the majors we offer, the classes we teach and the advising services we provide. In fact, we will stay in the Richards Building so I highly doubt you will notice any changes at all. Of course, we will continually strive to improve our department and its services.

This move to the College of Life Sciences will present a unique opportunity for us to work with other departments who share our goals of promoting health and preventing disease. I am convinced we will be a stronger department because of this move.

Please call me at (801) 422-3313 or send me an email at neiger@byu.edu if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brad Neiger
Professor and Department Chair
