During the last week of September and the first week of October, I attended the annual conference for the International Union for the Scientific Study of Populations. The conference was held in
Marrakech, Morocco. Marrakech is a fascinating city, featuring a mix of European influence and traditional Muslim society. Most people speak Arabic, but due to the country’s proximity to Spain I found it easy to get along speaking Spanish.
The conference was well attended by researchers and practitioners from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and the United States. I presented the results from a collaborative research project studying the effects of paternal absence on child malnutrition in Peru. I enjoyed attending presentations related to HIV/AIDS, families’ influence on education, immigration, and others. Mostly I enjoyed meeting people from other countries that share an interest in public health. It is encouraging to see people from all parts of the world are interested in improving the population’s health.

That is so cool!!! What an awesome opportunity
