<p align="center"><strong>SAFETY ASSOCIATE TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION</strong></p>
<p align="center"><strong>(Two Positions Available)</strong></p>
<p align="center">Reno &amp; Las Vegas, Nevada</p>
<p><strong>Job Description: </strong><br />
To assist the Safety &amp; Health (S&amp;H) Department staff by performing activities in support of NV Energy’s H&amp;S policies, procedures and departmental goals. All duties will be associated with, and contributing to the ongoing success of the S&amp;H Departments objective of providing a safe work environment for employees. The candidate will report directly to the S&amp;H Manager or an S&amp;H Team Leader.  However, work direction will be distributed to other departmental safety employees as appropriate to afford proper direction/oversight of the job duties/tasks.</p>
<p><strong>Field of Study:</strong></p>
<p>Science and/or Engineering:  Pursuing or completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree in <em>Safety or Industrial Health or related degree</em> from an accredited school; minimum 3<sup>rd</sup> or 4<sup>th</sup> year candidates.</p>
<p><strong>Work Location</strong></p>
<p>RENO or LAS VEGAS, Nevada   Note: Periodic travel will be required to power plants throughout the State of Nevada.</p>
<p><strong>Work Environment:</strong></p>
<p>Office and Industrial &#8211; The position will require periods of physical exertion, including walking on uneven surfaces and climbing stairs or ladders in power plant environments.  Position may require wearing of a fitted respirator and other power plant personal protective equipment.</p>
<p><strong>Work Schedule:</strong></p>
<p>Full Time &#8211; Must be able to work 40 hrs/week minimum</p>

<p><strong>Learning Objectives:</strong></p>
<p>This position will provide the selected candidate with an opportunity to utilize the knowledge acquired during their Safety and Health studies in a hazardous industrial work environment.  Each candidate will be mentored by an experienced safety and health professional.  Learning opportunities include, but are not limited to:</p>
<ul>
<li>Understanding OSHA’s regulatory requirements and how they apply in a power plant work environment.</li>
<li>Understanding, developing, and supporting company programs which are written to comply with the OSHA regulations.
<ul>
<li>Assist in workplace audits and inspections with the goal of ensuring regulatory compliance.</li>
<li>Periodically review permits for hazard specific operations as appropriate (e.g., permit-required confined space, work permits, hot work, etc.).</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>List of Anticipated Job Duties/Tasks:</strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Safety Advisor Support:</p>
<ul>
<li>Enhance existing confined space inventories and perform hazard assessments.</li>
<li>Participate in safety meetings and safety committee meeting.</li>
<li>Support asbestos program enhancements.</li>
<li>PPE assessment support.</li>
<li>Assist with safety tasks which support plant maintenance periods (a.k.a.; Outage Support).</li>
<li>Be available to perform a variety of “entry level” safety related assignments as needs are identified.<strong></strong></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Participate in plant audit / task observations &#8211; identifying hazards and methods for mitigating those hazards.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Develop/revise new and review existing safety and health training materials.</li>
<li>Conduct safety and health training for power plant workers.</li>
<li>Conduct power plant safety orientations for visitors and contractors.</li>
</ul>
<p>Industrial Hygiene Support:</p>
<ul>
<li>Conduct quantitative respirator fit tests.</li>
<li>Perform field monitoring of noise and other physical hazards.</li>
<li>Perform monitoring of chemical hazards is assorted work environments.</li>
<li>Update hazardous chemical inventories and MSDS records as needed.</li>
<li>Organize Industrial Hygiene records and materials as needed to support regulatory compliance and applicable record retention standards.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Job Requirements:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Capable of successfully passing a medical qualification to wear an air-purifying respirator.</li>
<li>Enrolled in an accredited college or university.  Junior standing, or better, is preferred.</li>
<li>Grade point average of 3.0 or higher.</li>
<li>Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.</li>
<li>Computer Skills: Microsoft applications as a basic user.</li>
<li>Effective verbal and written communication skills.</li>
<li>Working knowledge of environmental and safety regulations.</li>
<li>Requires strong organizational, prioritization, communication and team work skills.</li>
<li>Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects while meeting deadlines.</li>
<li>Be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States.</li>
<li>Candidate must be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative and ability to work both independently and with groups of employees.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>      Note:</strong> Students must meet all eligibility requirements and are required to provide transcripts and/or verification of college/university enrollment in order to begin or continue employment.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Thirty-seven million Americans live in poverty. Through AmeriCorps VISTA, you can make a tangible difference.</p>
<p>Become an AmeriCorps VISTA at the United Way of Utah County. AmeriCorps VISTA is a national program where community members have the opportunity to serve in local nonprofits for one year helping eliminate poverty. In return for service, members receive a living allowance, health insurance and other benefits. An AmeriCorps VISTA position is open in Provo to help expand and develop the South Franklin Community Center. This VISTA is needed to help with community center classes and events planning, neighborhood leadership development, grant writing, improve and expand marketing and outreach efforts for the center to attract and retain donors and volunteers.</p>
<p>VISTA is needed to start on August 22, 2011 (will last until August 2012).</p>
<p>Benefits:<br />
-Living Allowance ($891 a month pre-taxes),<br />
-At the end of year of service, the VISTA can choose an Education Award ($5,550) or End of Service Cash Stipend ($1,500)<br />

<p>The Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (TPCP) at the Utah Department of Health uses comprehensive, evidence-based strategies to reduce tobacco use and tobacco-related disease and death in Utah. The Utah population has the lowest smoking rate in the nation and thus presents exciting challenges in this area. The TPCP focuses work within specific population groups at highest risk for tobacco use, including low-income populations and certain racial and ethnic groups and sexual minorities. Program evaluation, population-based surveillance and qualitative research are key elements to the TPCP’s efforts.</p>

<p>Skills:</p>
<ul>
<li>Graduate degree in public health or social sciences (MS, MPH, or PhD preferred) with a strong background in qualitative research methods.</li>
<li>Experience with developing qualitative and quantitative study and program evaluation designs and conducting qualitative and quantitative studies; experience with performing qualitative and quantitative analysis. Sound knowledge of appropriate recording and transcription methods for qualitative interviews.</li>
<li>Experience with developing, reviewing, and pilot-testing data collection instruments (mainly qualitative interview guides and survey questionnaires).</li>
<li>Experience with preparing the results of evaluation studies for presentation and publication with a variety of audiences (reports, fact sheets, articles, etc.) and with providing training and technical assistance in evaluation planning.</li>
<li>Proficient with statistical and other software packages: e.g. SPSS, Atlas.ti, MS Excel, Word, Power Point, Adobe InDesign.</li>
<li>Comfortable with multi-tasking: handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize assignments.</li>
<li>Detail-oriented; high degree of accuracy in all aspects of work.</li>

-Explains and obtains informed consent, medical history and demographics; documents in source file and maintains with historical data, status reports, progress notes, and subject log to help ensure subject safety.<br />
-Determines length of visits and coordinates related facility and equipment availability.<br />
-Reports and tracks adverse events (AE). Reports serious AEs to IRB and sponsor.<br />
-Documents all protocol deviations, reconciles test article accountability at study close out and prepares summary report for sponsor.<br />
-Completes, audits, corrects CRFs, relays CRFs to sponsor.<br />
-Assists with negotiating contract budget and payment terms.<br />
-Maintains documents as required by FDA guidelines.<br />
-May maintain contact with IRB and prepare and submit IRB documents.<br />
-May ensure proper collection, processing and shipment of specimens.<br />
-May perform functions required of the Clinical Research Assistant as necessary.</p>
<p><strong>Problem Solving</strong><br />
Incumbents are responsible for coordinating the daily operations of their assigned research team, coordinating the orderly and safe flow of the research project and maintaining adequate resources for the PI to accomplish their research objectives.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>
<p>Bachelor&#8217;s degree in a related field, or equivalency required. IRB CITI Course in the Protection of Human Research subjects certificate obtained within six months of hire and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.</p>
<p>Some departments may require IATA DGR training within six months.</p>
<p><strong>Preferences</strong></p>
<p>International, or multi-center research coordination experience.</p>
<p><strong>Other Information</strong></p>
<p>This position requires successful completion of a drug test and criminal background check.</p>
